Tokyo Rhythm Fighter
A rhythm-based fighting game where music is the weapon. Battle Sforzanda, an ex-band member, by hitting notes, creating combos, holding chords, and harmonizing to deal damage — all in sync with the beat.
Play on Itch.ioOverview
Tokyo Rhythm Fighter follows Sola's battle against her ex-band member Sforzanda. Music is the primary combat medium — players input attacks and defenses in rhythm with the backing track to create combos and deal damage.
The space bar is the primary input, handling short attacks, sustained attacks, and defensive parries. Musical synchronization is critical — players must coordinate their chord selections with the track for maximum effectiveness.
My Contributions
I served as a bridge between the art, UI, and programming teams. My role spanned systems architecture, asset integration, and player feedback design.
Systems Detail
Animation Architecture
Built the foundational animation system using sprite iteration through Unity coroutines, enabling frame-by-frame character animation for both Sola and Sforzanda.
Visual Feedback ("Juice")
Sourced and implemented accuracy indicators, health bars, combo counters, and floating damage numbers. Hurt, harmonize, miss, and hit states each produce distinct visual effects tied to the beat.
Tutorial System
Designed an interlinking text messaging interface that delivers gameplay instructions and character dialogue — blending narrative delivery with mechanical onboarding.
